Hematuria is defined as the blood in urine. Sometime it is usually occurred due to any mild infection but sometime it is occurred due to some serious condition. There are two types of hematuria gross hematuria in which blood is clearly seen in urine and microscopic hematuria in which only microscopic particle of rbc’s present in the urine.
Symptoms
Sign and symptoms of hematuria include:
- Pain during urination
- Cola color urine
- Red urine if blood is fresh
- Abdominal pain
- Fever if it occurs due to any infection
Causes
There are many problems which causes hematuria which include:
- Kidney stone
- Enlarged prostate
- Kidney disease
- Urinary tract infection
- Pyelonephritis
- Malignancies
- Certain drugs
Diagnosis
After taking history your doctor may recommend the following tests to confirm the diagnosis:
- Blood test to check the complete count of blood
- Imaging test to rule out the malignancies
- Cystoscopy to visualize the urinary tract and bladder
- Urine test to evaluate the other causes
Treatment
Treatment of the hematuria depend upon the underlying causes like infection of urinary tract required antibiotic treatment and tumor or cancerous growth required surgical treatment.
