Hypotension define as the low blood pressure value which is lower than 90/60mm/Hg. It does not cause any serious problem in many people but it may be dangerous for some people.
Symptoms
Sign and symptom include:
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Blurring of vision
- Dizziness
- Fainting
- Impair concentration
Causes
There are many causes and condition which causes low blood pressure which include:
- Heart disease
- Pregnancy
- Dehydration
- Blood loss
- Endocrine disorder like Addison’s disease and hypoglycemia
- Malnutrition
- Septicemia
- Infection
Complications
Generally, it does not cause any severe complication but due to dizziness and fainting, falling injury may causes serious complication.
Diagnosis
After taking medical history your doctor may recommend the following test to rule out the cause of low blood pressure:
- ECG to check the electrical activity of your heart
- Blood test to check any infection or rule out the hypoglycemia
- Tilt-table test to check the changing in blood pressure by changing of posture
Treatment
Treatment of hypotension depend upon the underlying cause, general treatment option for hypoglycemia include:
- Drink more water and fluids
- Use more salt
- Medications
- Use compression stocking
- Avoid stress
