Morton’s neuroma occurs due to the thickening of tissue of your foot which press the surrounding nerves therefore it is the painful condition, most commonly affect the area between 3rd and 4th toes. There is also a sharp and burning pain.
Symptoms
There is no other systemic signs and symptoms, pain is only confined to the foot. You feel like you are standing on the stone or pebble in your shoe. Pain is to burning character there is also a tingling or numbness in your foot.
Causes
It is usually occurred due to the chronic irritation or pressure injury to the nerve which supply to your toes.
Diagnosis
After taking medical history or conducting a physical examination your doctor will recommend the following tests:
- Ultrasound to see the internal images of foot
- X-rays to exclude the other causes of pain
- MRI to visualize the soft tissues of foot and toes
Treatment
Treatment options include:
- Steroids injection to reduce the pain
- Arch support and foot pads to decrease pressure on the nerves
- Decompression surgery to reduce the pressure
- Surgical removal of nerve to relief pain
Lifestyle and home remedies
Following tips will reduce your pain:
- Avoid high heels or tight footwear
- Take pain killer
- Icing the foot to reduce pain and swelling
- Avoid heavy exercise and unnecessary activities
