Stony pieces and masses of minerals in the bladder producing as a result of crystallization of concentrated urine minerals.
Symptoms
Signs and symptoms occur when stone irritates the bladder wall or obscuring the urine flow. Clinical presentation include:
- Pain in lower abdomen
- Painful urination
- Interruption during micturation
- Blood drops in urine
- Abnormal texture (cloudy) or dark coloured urine.
Causes
Most common cause of stones formation in the bladder is the crystallization of minerals in concentrated urine. Urine can become concentrated when bladder is not allowed to empty completely. Some infection or medical condition that hurdles in the emptying of urine can lead to the formation of stones. Some of those conditions are:
- Enlargement of prostate gland
- Nerve damage
- Inflammation
- Bladder catheters
- Kidney stones
Complications
Stones if not passed causes following concerning complications like
- Chronic bladder problems
- Infection of urinary tract
Diagnosis
Diagnosis of this condition depends upon detailed medical history and complete general physical examination of patient. Other tests and investigations include:
- A urine test
- CT scan
- Ultrasound
- X-rays
Treatment
One of the most effective method to pass stone naturally is to drink alot of water. However, if stones are large enough following methods are used to remove it:
- Breaking of stones through ultrasound or laser then flushes it from the bladder.
- Surgical removal of stones
