It is defined as the abnormal growth of the cells in the breast tissue. This is the precancerous condition because hyperplastic cells are abnormal in structure and they are more prone to get mutation during increase growth rate. It is not a cancerous condition may increase the risk of developing cancerous later in the life.

Causes

Exact cause of atypical hyperplasia is not known yet. It is cause due to the mutation occurs in the breast cell. Mutation damage the cell machinery which control the cell growth. There are two type of hyperplasia atypical ductal hyperplasia and atypical lobular hyperplasia.

Complications

The   most common complication of atypical hyperplasia is breast cancer. People who have atypical hyperplasia have four time increase risk of developing cancer.

Diagnosis

Atypical hyperplasia is diagnosis during routine mammography checkup. Diagnosis is confirming by biopsy. Microscopic examination better reveals the type of hyperplasia and stage of cancer. To reduce the risk of cancer your doctor may recommend the removal of tumor.

Treatment

The best option of treatment is to removed surgically to prevent the complication of breast cancer. Your doctor may remove the all cells which show atypical hyperplastic morphology and some cells around the area to avoid the risk of metastatic growth. After surgery your doctor might recommend you a follow up checkup for the breast examination.
