Common warts is a skin condition that causes small, granular growth on skin of fingers and hands. These patches characterized as rough, tiny, black dots which are small clotted blood vessels actually.
Symptoms
Symptoms include:
- Tiny, granular bumps on skin
- Red flesh colour or white, pink or tan
- Rough texture
- Small black pinpoints
Causes
The main cause of common warts is the infection of human papillomavirus (HPV). This is a common virus and acquired through sexual contact. Some can be transmitted by direct contact of skin or shared objects. Every person immune system respond to viral infection differently.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis of this condition depends on detailed medical history and complete general physical examination of patient. Tests include involves
- Scraping of top layer to see black pinpoints and dots which are characteristics of warts
- Shave biopsy of warts
Treatment
Treatment options include prescription of
- Stronger peeling medicine (salicylic acid)
- Cryotherapy or freezing therapy
- Trichloroacetic acid is used when salicylic acid and cryotherapy doesn’t work
- Pulsed-dye laser
- Minor surgeries are done for some problematic warts
