  • Hormones change the body’s internal environment and may involve in the mood swings like depression occur after delivery or menopause or in thyroid gland diseases.
  • Neurotransmitter which are called brain chemicals also involved in depression.
  • Biological changes in brain physical structure also increase the risk of depression
  • It is also run in families as inherited traits

  • Hormonal test to check the level of certain hormones
  • DSM-5 criteria to diagnose the stage of depression

Treatment

Treatment option include medications and psychotherapy.

  • Selective-serotonin reuptake inhibitors like citalopram and fluoxetine
  • Tricyclic antidepressants like nefazodone and mirtazapine
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors like phenelzine and tranylcypromine

Psychotherapy involved a session with your doctor to whom you tell about feelings and thoughts and your psychiatrist will help you to find the solution of your problems and decrease negativity from your life. It includes different types of therapy depend upon the cause of your depression
