This is a common complication occurring in the  people who have lupus erythematosus. Lupus erythematosus is a autoimmune disorder characterized by the formation of auto-antibodies that attack body’s own tissues and organs. Lupus nephritis occur when autoantibodies affect kidneys structure which results in kidney inflammation and blood in urine.

Diagnosis depends on complete general physical examination and detailed medical history of the patient. Other tests include

  • Kidney biopsy
Treatment

Currently there’s no cure for lupus nephritis but some options can be considered to reduce the symptoms.

  • Conservative treatment like diet changes and prescribing anti-hypertensive drugs
  • Immunosuppression
  • Kidney dialysis
  • Kidney transplant
