Rabies

Rabies causes disease in the people who get rabies virus from the saliva of infected animal. The virus  is usually transmitted through a bite. After a person who is infected becomes symptomatic, it will always leads to death.

Symptoms

• Early symptoms are similar to that of flu
• High grade fever
• Headache
• Hydrophobia
• Agitation
• Anxiety and confusion
• Nausea and vomiting
• Hyperactivity
• Partial paralysis
• Excessive salivation
• Swallowing difficulty

Causes

Rabies infection is a viral infection caused by virus named rabies.Transmission of virus is through bite of infected animal in which virus is present in the saliva. Sometimes it can be spread through open wounds. Rarely, tissue and organ transplant can also transmit this virus.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis of this infection is done through detailed medical history and complete general physical examination of the patient.

Treatment

After the establishment of rabies infection, there’s no cure to treat it effectively. Disease usually caused death but some people have survived. If a person got bite from an animal who is suspected to have rabies virus, prevention of the development of disease can be done through rabies shots. Rabies shots include; A fast-acting shot (rabies immune globulin), a series of rabies vaccinations to identify and kill rabies virus in the body.
