It is defined as the condition in which there is sudden perception of spinning or something spinning in your head. It is a common cause of vertigo which is usually stimulate by the head position like when you move your head up and down or tilt your head etc.

Causes

Most often there is no exact of BPPV Is present which is called idiopathic BPPV. Sometime it is associated with other conditions like problem in inner ear or eight cranial nerve lesion, headache and migraines also associated with BPPV.

Complications

It is usually a harmless condition and does not cause any serious complication except the falling due to the dizziness sometime you lose your balance and fall down easily.

Diagnosis

For diagnosis your doctor will looking for:

  • Asked about dizziness by changing posture of your head
  • Check nystagmus
  • Signs and symptoms of BPPV
  • Un-control eye movement

Treatment

It may be resolve after few weeks but if symptoms remain persist then your doctor might recommend you a treatment option called canalith repositioning which consist of slow maneuvers to reposition your head. The goal of this maneuver is to change the position of fluid particles present in the semicircular canal on your inner ear. Other treatment options include surgical procedure to obstruction the part of inner ear which causes the signs and symptoms of BPPV.
