Enlarged liver is a condition which is known as hepatomegaly. It is not a disease, rather a sign of some underlying issue such as liver disease, CHF or malignancy.

Symptoms

Causes

Enlarged liver is a condition in which liver size increases. Some conditions that lead to hepatomegaly are:

• Cirrhosis
• Infection by hepatitis B and hepatitis C
• Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
• Alcoholic fatty liver disease
• Amyloidosis
• Wilson’s disease
• Gaucher’s disease
• Liver cysts
• Hemachromatosis
• Leukemia
• Bile duct or gall bladder obstruction
• Liver cancer
• Lymphoma
• Heart diseases

Diagnosis

Diagnosis of this condition depends upon detailed medical history and complete general physical examination of the patient. Other tests include:

• Blood tests
• Imaging tests like CT scan, MRI, ultrasound
• Liver biopsy

Treatment

Treatment of enlarged liver includes only treating the underlying condition that is leading to enlarge liver.
