Post-concussion Syndrome
This is defined as the period of concussion which is occur after the recovery of initial injury. Signs and symptoms appeared after weeks and month of initial recovery.
Symptoms
Signs and symptoms of persistent post-concussive symptoms include:
- Decreases in taste and smell
- Light sensitivity
- Blurry vision
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Anxiety
- Loss of memory
- Lack of concentration
- Insomnia
Causes
The exact cause of this disorder is unknown but it may be assumed that structural damage to the brain and brain messaging system may cause this disorder. Concussion occur due to the physical and emotional trauma to the brain.
Diagnosis
There is no specific test for this condition is available. But imaging tests like MRI and CT scan may help to detect the abnormality in the brain structure.
Treatment
The main aim of treatment is to treat the signs and symptoms. Treatment includes:
- Medications for headache and migraines like anti-depressants and anti-hypertensive agents etc.
- Cognitive therapy to treat memory problem and manage the stress
- Psychotherapy for mental illness
