Sacral Dimple

The depression or indentation on the lower back which is present at birth. Sacral dimple is present about the buttock’s cleavage. They are usually harmless and not produce any specific signs and symptoms.

Symptoms

Sacral dimple is harmless indentation and usually not cause any serious symptoms. There is only pit like depression in lower back.

Causes

It is the congenital condition which is present at birth. There is no specific cause is known yet.

Complications

Sometimes it causes complications but mostly does not produce any. Complications like spina bifida and tethered cord syndrome occurred.

Diagnosis

After taking history your doctor will recommend the following tests:

• MRI to check the images of sacral area
• ultrasound

Treatment

There is no need of treatment for sacral dimple.
