Yeast Infection, Vaginal Candida
It is defined as the fungal infection of vaginal tissue at the opening of vagina due to which itching, irritation and vaginal discharge occur. It is also called vaginal candidiasis. It is commonly occurred in young women.
Symptoms
Signs and symptoms of vaginal candidiasis include:
- Watery discharge from vagina
- Vaginal rash
- Pain and soreness
- Redness and swelling of the vulva
- Burning sensation
- Itching and irritation
Causes
Candida albicans a yeast is the most common source of vaginal infection. It is normally present as a normal flora of vagina along with other bacteria which prevent the increase production of yeast. Cause of overgrowth include:
- Pregnancy
- Uncontrol diabetes
- Low immunity
- Antibiotic use
Diagnosis
Diagnosis can be occurred by:
- Pelvic examination to see any physical abnormality around the vagina and vulva.
- Medical history about drugs and lifestyle
- Vaginal fluid test to check presence of any causative organism.
Treatment
Treatment option for vaginal yeast infection include:
- Single dose of fluconazole for mild infection.
- Short-course of antifungal medicine.
- Long term course to prevent to recurrent infection.
- Multidose oral therapy
