Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy
It is defined as the brain damage due to the repeated brain trauma. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy is uncommon disorder and the exact mechanism of its pathology is not clear. It mostly found in brain of athletes or sportsmen due to the injuries during sports.
Symptoms
Signs and symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy include:
- Depression
- Cognitive impairment
- Emotional instability
- Difficulty in performing tasks
- Substance abuse
- Suicidal thoughts
- Memory loss
Causes
The most common cause of CTE is repeated injury to the head or brain during sports or road traffic accidents. Repeated injury to brain cause brain atrophy and damage the nerves cells and affect the normal function of nervous system.
Diagnosis
The exact diagnosis of CTE made after death during autopsy. Some procedure is used to diagnosis the case of CTE which include:
- Positron emission tomography to check brain abnormalities by injected radioactive substances into the vein which will circulated into the brain and give the information from inside the brain.
- Imaging tests like MRI and CT to see the detailed images of brain.
Treatment
It is the progressive neurological disorder. Treatment only available for reducing the symptoms no specific treatment available for the cure of this condition.
